Special Needs Provision
We acknowledge that a significant proportion of pupils will have special educational needs and/or a disability (SEND) at some time in their school career. Many of these pupils may require help throughout their time in school, while others may need a little extra support for a short period to help them overcome more temporary needs. If these pupils are to achieve their full potential, we must recognise this and plan accordingly. Ling Moor aims to provide all pupils with strategies for dealing with their needs in a supportive environment, and to give them meaningful access to the National Curriculum.
Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities can fall into one or more of the following categories:
- Cognition and Learning
- Communication and Interaction
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health
- Sensory and/or Physical Needs
Every effort is made to identify children with SEND early in order for the appropriate level of support and intervention to be given. Identification is made through on-going teacher assessments of pupil progress in all areas of their development. Where appropriate, assessment data is used to measure the progress of pupils in reading, writing and mathematics. Once identified the school follows the graduated response to meeting pupil needs as set out in the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice.
Parents are involved at every opportunity from early identification of special needs through each stage. Regular termly review meetings are held with parents, teachers, support staff and pupils to discuss and agree progress made and set further targets for achievement.
The school has access to a variety of outside agencies that can, upon referral, provide advice and support for pupils. Our Special Education Needs Co-ordinatior within school is Mrs Shamaine Elms. If you would like to contact her please call the school directly or send an email to our enquries address for her attention.
